Compelling US Aging Workforce Facts:
- Rising healthcare costs and increasing numbers of baby boomers
retiring at the same time were among the top 10 trends HR professionals
listed that will have the biggest impact on the American workplace
in the next decade (2006 SHRM Workplace Study).
- Highest workforce growth rate will be among workers 5564
(US Census Bureau).
- 70% of workers who have not retired plan to work beyond age
65 or never retire (AARP).
- In 1998, only 36% of survey respondents planned to wait to retire
until age 62. In 2002, the percentage of workers who planned to
put off retirement until after age 62 had grown to 47%. In 2004,
the number had ballooned to 57%.(US Census Bureau).
- Surveys show that 70% to 80% of executives at big companies
are concerned about the coming brain drain, fewer than 20% have
begun to do anything about it (Fortune, 07/19/06).
